A New Examination (49 mins)

Iain Lewis teaches how the Lordship of Christ in the local assembly is a serious activity, a simple activity, a shared activity, a symbolic activity, a sustaining activity, a significant activity and a sobering activity.

A New Esteem (52 mins)

In this sermon, Iain explains the significance of Headship and how it is demonstrated in the local assembly; he also helpfully distinguishes the difference between Headship and Lordship. Notably, he proves how the observation of Headship in a local church was not a passing cultural trend, but rather a practise that has it’s doctrinal roots in creation. Iain further demonstrates that Headship is a corporate, commanded, and Christ-centred issue.

A New Example (48 mins)

In this challenging opening sermon of the series, Iain Lewis presents Jesus Christ as Lord and explains how this is a theme that runs throughout 1 Corinthians. The sermon is marked by the phrase “God first, others second, and me – not at all” which is a sobering reminder that we are not at liberty to live life how we please, indulging in the flesh and adopting a selfish mindset as the Corinthians did. Instead, we are to live humbly,…

The Temple of God and our Boundaries (41 mins)

Eddie Wong preaches on the assembly as a Temple of God from 1 Corinthians ch 1 to 3. After mentioning the 10 metaphors to the local assembly in the NT, he focuses on the Temple of God analogy. He cautions against going outside the boundaries laid out in the Bible. The Temple of God relates to the Sanctuary, our Sanctification, our Sacrifice, our Service and our Separation.

The Preaching of the Cross at Corinth (40 mins)

At Corinth, a city steeped in philosophy and religious tradition, the message of Christ crucified stood in stark contrast to what people expected. To the Greeks, who prized intellectual wisdom, and to the Jews, who looked for miraculous signs, the cross seemed foolish. But to those who believe, it is revealed as the power of God. This sermon challenges the listener to see the cross of Christ at the very heart of God’s plan to save sinners.

Jonathan deals with many key truths in this passage, including; headship, head-coverings and gender specific meetings, treating them scripturally and sensitively. (Preached: 23rd June 2022)

Bible Reading – 1 Corinthians 11:17-34

Easter Conference 2017 – David Gilliland opens up 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, giving the background to the passage and outlining the difference between Lordship and Headship etc. The contribution section of the Bible Reading is not included. A roving mic was not used and the central mic did not pick up the comments clearly enough. (Conducted: April 16th 2017)

The Local Assembly

Easter Conference 2016 – Tom Armstrong outlines the truth of the “local assembly” from 1 Corinthians. Look out for the 10 C’s from the epistle – community, construction, commemoration, care etc. This is a good introduction to the basics of assembly testimony, its character, function and purpose – vital truth for every believer. (Preached: 28th March 2016)

A More Excellent Way

Easter Conference 2016 – John Fleck preaches through 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 and challenges his audience on the issue of love. Love’s preeminence, practice and permanence are all expounded from this chapter. Love is the answer to envy and jealousy, to anger and resentment, to pride and arrogance. Without love we are nothing! (Preached: 28th March 2016)
